… … … … Oh, you’re still here? Weren’t those posts enough to convince you? Damn, how can you resist after reading such beautiful posts? Your resolve is as strong as steel. :| Fine, I’ll show you just how brightly my manly spirit burns! I’ll probably wind up unintentionally plagiarizing off of the above. Yohoho, I’m truly a pirate!

*edited 3/28 for an additional sentence or two on how the series tops me One Piece nakamaship.

*edited 3/20 for moar pimp posts and an additional resource in Places of Interest; word count levels up! …but I’m too lazy to check what it actually is.

One Piece musings (spoilerific)

Filed under: Anime — unsquared @ 12:29 am

…Omg, Nami just imitated Bon Clay. XDD It\’s been so long since the Arabasta arc that I never noticed this when I first read Thriller Bark. It\’s far easier to get this in the anime since I can hear the \”joudan ja nai wa yo!\”

Ah, I love this show so much. It\’s a shame the anime moves so slowly compared to the manga. At least, it feels that way… I think Toei has the tendency to stretch things out, and yet in terms of chapter count and episode count, it doesn\’t appear that way. O_o; For Thriller Bark, the episode count vs. chapter count are virtually identical whereas Arabasta\’s episodes were practically half that of the manga chapters. Huh. Maybe I just enjoy reading it more since I\’m not forced to spend 24 minutes on one chapter like I am for episodes?

Doop dee doop

Filed under: Anime, Miscellaneous, Real Life — unsquared @ 2:48 am

After getting home from the Event of the Mel-lennium (Red Robin plus walking around Eastridge + wandering around Capitol Square Mall + Target + Mel’s house), I was greeted with Code Geass and…100 dice? Give or take a few, I suppose. The dice are a lot smaller than I thought they’d be and the colors aren’t very really pretty. They might not be good stocking stuffers when they are so small… I had to pay for school today since my parents have been hounding me about it and checked my grades at the same time. Er…yeah, pretty much what I expected, though I was a little CONCERNED about Archaeology. I must redeem myself next year with my Livescribe Smart Pen. Those $150 must make me a genius!

I have to sleep in a bit for tomorrow’s SF Japantown trip so I won’t really delve into today’s details. Well, more like it’d result in my typing 1500+ words about things I don’t remember clearly since it’s been a long day. Yeah, very unlike me to not even bother, haha. Mainly because I’d rather complain about something else, heh. I suppose highlights would include us making fun of Mel and her crazyyyy driving. And Jenny being forced to associate with us hobos.  And Mel harrassing the server about drinks along with Kim ordering extra spit for Mel’s meal. Oh, and Mel’s mom wanting to buy a Christmas tree. Come to think of it, what are those trees actually called…?

Regarding the two Code Geass boxsets I got, I’ve seen the packaging for the first set before, so I’m pretty satisfied with them. I think the space may be a little…much since the items actually have room to move. Not that it’s bad, but I’d rather it be a little tighter. As for the second boxset, it’s TOO TIGHT. Geez, there needs to be a happy medium. I made this ugly crease in the bottom flap. Luckily no one can see it and its ugliness can only be witnessed if I pull it again, but it lives on in my miind! The top flap is easier to pull out, but it’s still too perfect for my liking and can be worn out, so I left it out a bit to make it easier. Now it looks awkward since it’s not shoved down all the way, but I’d rather it last long and be in good condition. I wanted to take screencaps, but the DVD doesn’t seem to work well on this laptop. The subtitles are yellow on television but green and pink/red on my laptop! Very funky. I think it’s more of a laptop thing though.

I’m kind of surprised by Lelouch’s voice here. His voice is gentler and not as deep or flamboyant/overexagerrated. I don’t remember Zero’s voice being distinct from Lelouch’s. Was Fukuyama Jun getting used to the voice or did a certain event occur in the story that resulted in Lelouch’s voice being all Zero-like? Hmm, maybe it’s mentioned in the, uh, booklets. I read them but already forgot the contents!

Ookiku Furikabutte

Filed under: Anime — unsquared @ 8:18 pm

Ookiku Furikabutte is a baseball anime based off of Higuchi Asa’s seinen manga of the same name. Although a sports anime, Oofuri is absent of the rinse and repeat pattern typically present in such shows.

Synposis: The main character of the story is Mihashi Ren, the former ace of Mihoshi High School. Though being an ace is impressive, Mihashi was turned ace not with his own skill, but by his grandfather, who owns the school. As a result, his teammates came to resent him. Although Mihashi was aware of teammates’ feelings, he never stepped down from the mound during his entire middle school baseball career, seemingly causing his team to lose games. (more…)

True Tears, Thoughts on Characters of the (primarily) Female Variety

Filed under: Anime — unsquared @ 8:25 pm

Noe isn’t exactly a favorite of mine, but I don’t have anything against her. She actually gained some points with me during this episode (seven for those who don’t know, the episode, not the points). I thought I’d write more about her in this, but it turns out most of it is about Aiko.

I liked that Noe got angry/upset over people constantly telling her that she doesn’t understand anything. I can really relate to that. Sure, no one has the “right” to assume they can completely understand another person’s suffering, but it seems so selfish to just bottle in your feelings and not *tell* anyone when they are genuinely concerned. Alienating someone doesn’t make them any closer to you. (more…)

Review: Onegai Twins by Go Zappa

Filed under: Anime, Books, Manga — unsquared @ 2:46 am

Note: I haven’t seen the entire Onegai Twins series. I watched the majority of it and skipped over some episodes, and do not intend to go back through them. This entry is based on what I remember from the anime, manga, and the novels, which I’ve read in their entirety. Therefore, this entry contains spoilers as I’m comparing what little I can recall.

Warning: HOLY CRAP, this is almost ~1600 words. I talk way too much. Need to add more pictures later.

Onegai Twins anime picture

Slight plot synopsis: The main character of the story is Kamishiro Maiku, a high school student who works as a programmer for a living. He chose to move to his new home due to a picture that holds the only clue to his past. His life makes a change for the better (?) when he meets a girl claiming to be his twin sister! Later in the day, another girl arrives to his humble abode claiming the same thing. Can Maiku believe these two girls, whose eyes are the same as his? And if he finds himself falling in love with one of them, how is he to know if she’s related to him? Welcome to the world of Onegai Twins, where a blue-eyed girl can be either a stranger or your sister!

Da Capo II (Slightly Updated)

Filed under: Anime — unsquared @ 7:54 pm

To be honest, I wasn’t going to watch this show despite my strange fascination with renai game-to-anime conversions, but after glancing at Random Curiosity’s Omni’s thoughts on how the episodes turn out, and particularly how things have been going thus far, I’ve started watching it. Huh, sounds like me watching Canvas 2.

I’ve actually never seen the first Da Capo anime because I don’t think I’ll like Nemu. I finished watching it. Nemu’s not exactly a favorite of mine, but at the very least, I can understand why her story would be the “true” ending. Their relationship is disturbing, but you can’t look away. O_o; It’s kind of upsetting that no one else had a chance because Nemu was “first.” Anyway, I’m wary of Circus anime because I’m not fond of their penchant for siscon, even if it’s fake siscon/cousin con whatever. I want to see a new theme. ;; So yeah, nothing to do with squicks since I liked Canvas 2. (more…)

Toward the Terra, Episode 19

Filed under: Anime — unsquared @ 1:03 am

wordpress images never look good...oh well, too lazy to go to imagecave right now

Thanks to Tony’s rather blatant hints in the beginning of the episode, I’m tempted to marathon this series when it’s over to see how much foreshadowing there is.

First off, let’s use the more feature before I screw non-viewers, who may intend to watch the series, over! Spoilers galore! (more…)

List Thus Far for Summer 2007

Filed under: Anime — unsquared @ 1:11 pm

Asterisks next to “new” additions.

Shows I’m currently watching:

Hayate no Gotoku – Bishoujo-faced Ayasaki Hayate becomes a butler for Sanzenin Nagi, a rich quasi-lolita after a failed (more like misunderstood) kidnapping.

Terra e or Toward the Terra – Old school sci-fi. When you turn fourteen, you take an exam in order to be welcomed into the world of adults. Jomy Marquis Shin was one of those children, but the adulthood exam is only a farce. Everything he held dear to him was simply a lie! (more…)
