it’s like a laboratory

Damn, I suck at bowling. Scored a 40, one of them being a strike rather than consistency across the board. Apparently I flick my wrist instead of using my entire arm? Kind of want to practice to get better, but I get embarrassed really easily. Clearly I’m more suited for badminton since I’m fond of wrist action, though my body is incompatible with all sports so it doesn’t mean all that much…

Aside from that, I had fun today! Whoop for cousin reunions!

WHY AM I UPDATING MY LJ MORE OFTEN THAN MY REGULAR BLOG

Filed under: Books, Miscellaneous, Real Life — unsquared @ 12:45 am

*not all that recent; may write another entry on Thursday or Friday to talk about summer school and such.

Not much has happened since the end of the school year. Heck, I haven’t really had the chance to truly get away from Berkeley, what with having to attend eye appointments every week. I had to get fitted for new lenses since the ones I had weren’t giving my eyes enough oxygen. After that, I needed yet another refitting because they seemed to be irritating my eyes!

The following week, I came in without the test pair I had on before, which was a no-no. I thought they wanted me to see how the trial lens would be. INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, I was a subject of sorts that day. Interns and the like had the opportunity to look at my right eyeball through a teaching tube. Apparently I have something on my eye that usually disappears after birth. Thanks, mom! Aside from that, there was also a foreign body in my left eye, but they wanted me to come back the following week to (1) determine my eyes’ response to the lenses and (2) see whether the body would just go away.

This week I had it removed (might’ve been residue from a ripped contact lens) and my lenses were fine–though my vision didn’t feel as sharp this time around–so I won’t have to go back for an appointment until next year. I much prefer these lenses over my previous pair, especially compared to the first test pair I tried on. Stiff contacts feel so awkward. I believe they Acuvue Oasys, two-week disposables. I’m used to monthlies, but the increased health benefits is nice, even if it probably costs more. Yippee! I so prefer going to the dentist over the optometrist; I feel like I’m taking a test rather than attending an appointment when I’m at the optometrist. Eye chart, you are my enemy… It just feels ridiculous to say this letter is an A when I know I’m not looking at an A.

Besides that, I’ve seen two movies this summer so far: Up and The Proposal. As usual, I’m really fond of Pixar movies. (more…)

  • lulz, i got the definition of psychology wrong. it’s not only my favorite class this semester, but…that’s kind of really really basic. i was reasoning why i should put “a, b, and c are correct,” but ignored my thought process because I don’t remember it being on the slides. then i checked, and it turned out they were. WHOOPS.
  • I SHOULD TRUST MY INSTINCTS AND NOT MY BRAIN. I think I got the location for Wernicke’s area wrong because I was trying to reason it despite knowing B-W–> inferior-superior. Probably associated them with the wrong lobes.
  • …I neglected to study for most of the second midterm material because i was sleepy and forgot about the stuff that i didn’t hole-punch. WHOOPSx2.
  • I do not forsee an 88 in my near future. Amusingly enough, I think I did best on the material for the first midterm despite getting my worst score on that one. I guess I concentrated on that since I did so badly there and handwaved the second midterm material since I did decently on that. XD;
  • PSYCHOPHYSICS WAS ON THE TEST, BUT I FORGOT WHAT IT MEANT.
  • parasympathetic – resting! sympathetic – fight or flight. …i forgot what i put on the exam.
  • I SHALL UPDATE WHEN THE GRADES ARE UP. I’d love to get an A- in the class, but I bet I missed more than 12. XD;
  • Missed 16 and ended up with a B+ in the class. … …Well, here’s to hoping I get decent grades in my other classes.

Goals for the Summer

Filed under: Real Life, School — unsquared @ 1:39 pm
  • Read ahead for Fall 2009
  • Get good grades for summer classes
  • Study Japanese (try to recall those 2 years)
  • Acquire a Macbook and learn how to use it
  • Read those damn English grammar books I own
  • Obtain editing skills
  • Talk to Bader about how one would get internship credit? Might do it next week instead. …She lives nearby though, so I could always try visiting her.
  • Go to the Career Center for tips on nailing internship interviews?
  • Figure out potential travel time and such for internship
  • Work on resume

No clever title :(

…Man, I can’t stop thinking about how my parents may have thrown out a Kinokuniya postcard (more specifically my dad since he loves throwing things away; he even threw away one of my brother’s puzzles because he hadn’t put it together). I went in like last month or the month before to special order a magazine and they told me there was a 50-50 chance they’d be able to acquire the item for me. I didn’t actually expect them to get it, so I went ahead and ordered them online, though it’ll be some time before they get shipped to my house. I appreciate my mom finally telling me, but doing that on a Monday when I know I can’t go to the store to check is going to distract me for the rest of the week. Guess I’ll sell the copy I ordered or ask Akadot to cancel or swap it for something else. It’d be sad too if it turned out to be something else instead of a Kinokuniya postcard, meaning we’d waste gasoline.

…I’ll just call them tomorrow or the day after. :| b (more…)

Sam’s Market

Moar pasta. :| b

  • CLASSICO TRADITIONAL FAVORITES: FOUR CHEESES – $3.99
  • DE CECCO Capellini – $2.59

Don’t you love my caps? Apparently capellini only has a two-minute cooking time. My guess is that it’s attributed to how thin the pasta is. I still have bow ties to finish, but I like grabbing groceries on Tuesdays.

This is just to say

Filed under: Real Life, School, Thoughts — unsquared @ 5:56 pm

I love you guys. (Damn it, this is embarrassing. ///)

…I’ve always felt awkward about saying this kind of thing, but I’ve been thinking about how much I want a friendship that feels like it’ll last forever. I love how we’re able to just get back into routine when we see each other, despite the many months we don’t see each other, the physical distance, and all those inside jokes with which we have nothing to do. We make new ones,  building more bridges to help us cross the newly formed gaps. (I’m almost tempted to compare it to stitching, but I think that’d scar Jeannie. I’ll leave that to Kim if she ever has to stitch people up. I don’t think that’s something a nurse practitioner does though.)

I’m too much of a coward to easily say that I’d risk my life for our friendship, but I love how comfortable we are around each other, how we can poke fun at each other…albeit sometimes unsuccessfully. (Kim’s very good at topping us all, but vice versa is a no.) I like how worries seem to melt away when we’re talking. I think another part of why I dislike school more than I did in the past is because of how it gets in the way of our making more of these “could-be” moments.

I don’t like the feeling of panic  and dread that returned with the ending of Spring Break. It’s like a reminder of loneliness. I thought I was used to it, but when you get a taste of being with people you’re close to, you realize it’s not  something you ever really get used to. No, it’s about resignation. Like I’ve mentioned to Jeannie, I feel so spoiled by these childhood-long friendships that I don’t think any new bonds can compare. I don’t want convenient friendships; networking is so insincere. I know it’s something that has to be done, but…

Bah, I’m an emotastic sap. ;; I really don’t like talking about these sorts of things because I’m sure it’s easy to solve this. I’m just a coward. Dude, this was supposed to be cheerful entry.

This declaration of platonic love is sponsored by One Piece, topping extraordinaire.

I’ve been updating LJ more often these past few days…

Filed under: Miscellaneous, Real Life — unsquared @ 2:23 pm

Had loads of fun with Kim, Caroline, Jeannie, and Serena yesterday! …Though not all of us were together at once. ;; Our fiesta de disney was more of a fiesta de youtube/korean conversion, haha. I’m too lazy to do a rundown of what happened, but maybe Jeannie will do it. ;D (She probably won’t since I’m the one who writes long entries…unless she’s writing about cleansing products. By the way, I used hers and my skin feels nice. IT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.) In other news, Kim sort of taught me how to cut pancakes. :| …Only she still wants to teach me how to hold my fork and knife properly. I may update this entry again just for the heck of it. For now, SOB I SHOULD DO SOME SCHOOL WORK (not).

Also:

What the eff, Threadless?  DAMN YOU FOR DOING THIS AFTER I BUY STUFF. ROAR. I would’ve whored my wallet out to you more if you had done that sooner.

…Whoops, I think I left Happy Feet at Jeannie’s house.

Sam’s Market & Walgreens

Filed under: Real Life — unsquared @ 3:22 pm

Sam’s Market

  • Golden Grain Mission Rotelle (12 oz) – $1.79
  • Pasta Sauce Roast Garlic Alfredo (15 oz) – $3.99

Walgreens

  • P/F ORG MILANO 7OZ – $3.39

The Milano cookies taste really good. They seem kind of pricy to me, but I’m not exactly a cookie afficionado, so I’m unfamiliar with how much a package of cookies is worth these days. I’m surprised by the amount of cholesterol in the pasta sauce. I’ll probably try Pesto or something else next time. I’ve had good experiences with the Alfredo Pasta at Gypsy’s, but “my version” is probably nowhere near as good. ;; Anyway, I spent a surprising amount of time cooking something I don’t plan to eat until later tonight. Hopefully I’ll get at least one reading done.

Overdue Trader Joe’s grocery list

Filed under: Miscellaneous, Real Life — unsquared @ 11:33 pm

The exam for English 101 was easier than I thought it’d be since the professor gave us options as opposed to forcing us to answer everything. I…really should’ve reviewed the terms of art, hahaha. ;; I was tempted to reschedule the experiment for my RPP credit, but it only took about 20 minutes anyway! That, and I should get the ball rolling. The rain was pretty crazy today.

  • BRITISH STYLE CRUMPETS BREAD 1.99
  • CEREAL BARS APPLE 1.69
  • MEAL ITALIAN PENNE WI/ MEATBAL 2.49

You know what’s tragic? I saw that the crumpets started molding today. So tragic.
