Pushing Daisies, S1E1 - Pie-lette
Oh, wow. I’ve heard about it on Fandom Secrets, but didn’t expect to like it so much. Too bad it’s being canceled. Jeannie seemed interested in it too, after watching half of the episode. It’s a shame I introduced her to a show that she might not have the opportunity to watch until Monday, due to Internet problems. The story is pretty much a mix of romance, “mystery,” and adventure. Its main character? Ned, a piemaker. Yeah, pie. You know you gotta love it. Oh, and dead people. Pie and dead people. Kind of like Sweeney Todd on a superficial level of comparison, I guess?
Apparently Ned has the ability to bring people back to life for one minute without consequence; any longer and someone else in proximity will die in “exchange” for the living. What’s more, Ned absolutely cannot touch this now-living being or else said being will die. When he was young, he discovered he had this ability by accidentally killing both his mother and his friend Chuck’s (Charlotte) father. This makes Ned perfect as a sort of “detective.” He can communicate with the undead regarding how they died and such.
As for the romantic bit, it’s difficult for him to get into a physical relationship with anyone. Unfortunately for Ned, he winds up reviving Chuck…so he can never touch her again if he wants her to remain alive. It’s incredibly sweet to see how the relationship between Chuck and Ned will develop: Can love bloom between two people in a relationship devoid of touch? In a world where sex dominates, this is a rather original take! It’s rare to see shows that depict love so purely.
Oh crap, I missed Ugly Be–oh, they aren’t airing this week. Aw.
Heyyy, there’s a poll function on Word Press now!
